For a myriad of reasons, it’s near-impossible for food businesses to know how much surplus they will have at the end of the day, and which items they will be. All the while the issue of food waste is a great challenge in solving the climate crisis. Too Good To Go's innovative and scalable smartphone app acts as a marketplace for this surplus food and connects food suppliers with consumers willing to purchase the food in advance and collect at a specified time. This can range from bakeries that need to bake fresh every day to supermarkets that have groceries that weren’t sold and restaurants that didn’t sell all the food they had catered for that day. Since launching the app in 2016, more than 37.5M meals have been saved, representing up to 77,000 tons of CO2.

The Environmental Benefits

  • From the moment the first meal was saved through the app, 77,000 tons of CO2e emissions have been saved

The Financial Benefits

  • Offers an alternative B2C marketplace for food, allowing for additional revenue and reaching new customers instead of paying for the removal of the food.
  • Can help to recover between 30-40% or the retail value of final products which would have been declared as lost
