Prevcarb is a vegetal-based chemistry startup focused on developing an innovative lignocellulosic organosolv biorefining process. This process enables the fractionation of biomass, allowing the separation of its three key components: lignin, cellulose, and hemicellulose. These platform molecules can serve as sustainable alternatives to petroleum-based compounds, offering high-value functionalities such as surfactants and antioxidants, with applications primarily in the cosmetics, materials, and agriculture industries.

The Environmental Benefits

  • Prevcarb process works with lignocellulosic biomass. Lignocellulosic biomass, for example wood or straw, is the most abundant biomass on earth. It is not in competition with food.
  • Prevcarb process as a very high mass balance, we intend to use the 3 fractions of the biomass: lignin, cellulose and hemicelluloses and minimize byproducts.
  • Prevcarb process use mild conditions (a low severity index) that allow our lignin to be close to native lignin (the lignin as it is in the plant).
  • Lignin enables reducing the quantity of chemical filters in sun protection creams by 50% while maintaining the same SPF (Sun Protection Factor).
  • Lignocellulosic biorefining is a key solution to fossil free chemicals, solving the problem of environmental toxicity with a sustainable sourcing

The Financial Benefits

  • Our product is directly cheaper because our cosmetic customers are winning a marketing competitive advantage compared to their competitor using controversial molecules.
  • Our product will be directly cheaper once the process will be scaled. Extraction and functionalisation of lignin would require less operation than complexes molecules from petrochemistry.
