Maturity stage TRL 9 / CRI 2 - Commercial Trial Small Scale

With a growing population, a growing demand for high quality, nutritious food production and competing land use demands, modern agriculture is facing challenges. This Solution from INNO-3B offers an innovative vertical farming technology that is highly optimised, scalable and profitable. Microgreens, leafy greens and herbs are grown in tall production towers at optimal environmental conditions year-round. Parameters include relative humidity, temperature, CO2 concentration and air flow. An automatic crop handling system eliminates the need for operators to go around the field or up-and-down fixed racking, while maximizing space use. Towers can be custom-built to fit the vertical space available in a building up to 40 ft high, and production surface can be upgraded up to 6 times the minimal configuration afterwards, offering economies of scale.

The Environmental Benefits

  • Up to 3.5 kg of CO2 equivalent offset per kg of produce, compared to the mainstream alternative
  • Up to 95% less water use per kg of produce
  • 100% pesticide-free

The Financial Benefits

  • Payback time in less than 3 years
  • 70% of energy used can be recycled into existing heating systems
