In 2024, Welcome app partnered with the Holiday Inn Group to provide sustainable transportation solutions for pilgrims during the Hajj season in Saudi Arabia. This collaboration aimed to offer a seamless and eco-friendly travel experience for the millions of pilgrims visiting the holy sites. The Welcome app's ride-sharing technology was integrated into the Holiday Inn's services to facilitate shared rides for pilgrims, thereby reducing the number of vehicles on the road and promoting awareness about the environmental impact and carbon footprint offsetting. Annually, around 2-3 million pilgrims participate in Hajj, making this initiative a significant step towards sustainable transportation during one of the largest religious gatherings in the world.
The solution helped save approximately 5,000 tonnes of CO2 annually, equivalent to the monthly traffic emissions of a city like Luxembourg. This reduction was achieved by lowering the number of single-occupancy vehicles and promoting shared transportation among the 2-3 million pilgrims, thus decreasing traffic congestion during the peak travel period. The collaboration led to substantial savings for the Holiday Inn Group and the pilgrims. On average, transportation costs were reduced by 20%.
Welcome Ride-Share is a smart sharing-mobility platform aimed at providing sustainable transportation solutions. Launched in 2022, it operates in approximately 22 cities across the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia. Our service focuses on reducing carbon emissions by promoting shared rides, and making urban transportation more eco-friendly and accessible. By integrating advanced technology and a user-friendly app, Welcome Ride-Share ensures efficient and reliable transportation, aiming to reduce over 100 million tonnes of CO2 emissions by 2026.
