About
e4E bricks absorb carbon throughout their entire life cycle, from manufacture through to demolition and deconstruction. They are compressed rather than fired, significantly reducing energy consumption and emissions. The bricks are made using excavated soil, which would otherwise go to landfill. They also contain lime, which not only enhances mechanical strength and long-term durability, but also absorbs carbon dioxide. Unlike conventional lime production, which requires high temperatures and results in significant CO2 emissions, e4E uses a novel low temperature anion exchange method with no direct CO2 emissions, reducing the environmental impact. As the manufacturing process is low energy and the bricks absorb carbon throughout their service life, they are carbon negative. The bricks are also fully recyclable – if they are ever no longer needed, they can be crushed and returned to the soil for crop growth.
