story image

Description

At this year's "Move for Charity", employees of Geistlich raised $26,208 USD for coral reef regeneration. During "Move for Charity," employees can cover as many kilometers as possible within 24 hours by walking, cycling, or inline skating. The collected kilometers are converted into US dollars and donated to a good cause.

Impact & Result

10 m2 of damaged coral reef regenerated and scientifically monitored for 3 years.

Collaborating with rrreefs provided us with a unique opportunity to involve our employees in meaningful environmental action, demonstrating our commitment to the ocean and reef regeneration in the Philippines. It was a fantastic project for our employees to engage with.

Diego Gabathuler, Geistlich CEO

Solution Spotlight

We rebuild dying coral reefs with a 3D-printed reef system made from pure clay, which has already shown excellent results for increasing the number of corals and fish. It creates habitat on all scales, is easy to handle, built by locals, and adaptable to local contexts, allowing for scalable decentralized implementation. With our reef regeneration packages, we enable companies with a footprint in or by the ocean to invest into ocean health to reach internal sustainability targets, drive engagement, or follow regulations. Our offering is a simple and effective solution, including impact reporting and storytelling material for at least 3 years. Fully scaled, rrreefs could protect 700 km of coastline with a 50m-barrier of regenerated reef within the next 10 years, that is 1% of reef-dependent coastal areas. Accompanying policy work will help protect these areas long-term and regenerate the vital services that healthy coral reefs provide to hundreds of millions of people.
