Description

L’Oréal innovation division chose Gecko to equip their professional training academy in Paris and their youth training school, Real Campus. After noticing the high consumption of hot water in hair salons, they decided to implement eight Gecko systems in February 2022. With an efficiency of more than 86%, the energy consumption of the L’Oréal salons has drastically decreased. The L’Oréal Real Campus heat recovery balance sheet shows an investment payback period of 18 months.

Impact & Result

- The project has saved 7,261.8 kwh per year, the equivalent of 36,672 km driven by electric cars.
- Achieved notable energy efficiency improvements, conserving enough power annually to support an average household for nearly seven months.
- Enhanced sustainability efforts, aligning with green energy goals and reducing reliance on non-renewable energy sources.

Solution Spotlight

Currently, a lot of energy is wasted in the form of hot water. In fact, each shower only uses 15% of the calories contained in the hot water. When the water is ejected to the sewers, its average temperature is about 33°C for a standard shower at 38°C. This energy could be used to preheat the fresh clear water and reduce the energy needed. Moreover, the time waiting for hot water after the tap opening waste a lot of water. At each shower, 9 litres are lost during this phase. Gecko reuse 88% of the calories contains in the wastewater and provide hot water 3 seconds after the tap opening. By reducing the energy needed to warm the fresh clear water and reducing the waiting time for hot water, Gecko has a positive global impact.
